The Snow Melts . . . And Creates MUD!!

Captured Moment

An Hour in the Field Museum

We only spent an hour at the Field Museum because they had a fund raising event that evening, but Emily and Megan really wanted to see Sue, the T-Rex. They also enjoyed the Egyptian display and the many sarcophaguses. It turned out to be a fun trip, but there was just too much to see in one day so we'll have to plan another trip!!

Under the Sea -- Our Trip to Shedd Aquarium

We loved all the different sting rays. They all had different markings on their backs, and we saw some really large ones. It was amazing to watch how they glide carelessly through the water.
Megan exploring the mouth of a sucker fish cleaning the glass!

I loved the beauty and vivid colors of the reef displays. The anemones look so delicate and the sea urchins look so spiny and the colors of the starfishes are so beautiful! And somehow it all fits together perfectly, an underwater paradise! Just a reminder that the world -- in its purity as God created it -- is a picture of perfection and harmony!

Initially, when we saw this display, Matthew and I thought there was an artificial light in the tank. The blue light is actually a Plumose anemone. Absolutely beautiful!

Can you find the seahorses? They were fun to watch!

Mr. Chameleon.

Here is one very active iguana!

One of Emily's favorite fish!

Doesn't it look like the fish is telling Emily a secret?

Science Project

This is a science project we started this fall. Anyone know what kind of plant it is? It is teaching us patience as we wait for the first fruit!

Heart Boughs

For Valentine's Day, Emily and Megan made heart boughs to decorate the kitchen. They had a lot of fun cutting tissue paper and glueing them on card stock. Then we cut out hearts and used hot glue to attach them to tree branches that Matthew cut for us. They turned out cute!

Watermelon Heart Popsicles

Emily saw these watermelon popsicles in a magazine and wanted to try them! We cut heart shapes out of slices of watermelon with a cookie cutter, then put them on popsicle sticks. Then we froze them before eating.

Snow Cream

Some good friends of ours made snow cream for us and we loved it. We decided to make some of our own while we still had plenty of snow. It was fast and easy!

20 Weeks and Counting!

I am not especially fond of the scared look on my face in this shot. (I am not used to being on this side of the camera!)

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!!!

This winter I predicted that we were going to have occasional light snows, and no large accumulations. I was wrong. We are used to having large piles of snow hanging around until March, but it usually doesn't all come in the same night. For some of us, it made a lot of extra work. For some of us, an excuse to get out and play in the frigid temperatures. Matthew moved a lot of snow with the tractor, and then, the shovel. We are thankful to Jeffrey for bringing the snow blower over to clear out the driveway. Looking forward to some fun sledding days to come!!

Jeffrey added a little "color" to the trees! The girls thought it was cool to see the snow fly everywhere.
